upgrade question: will the new Denon 1910 or Onk577 be upto powering 3005SE

I am about to upgrade my Amp, looking upto approx 450quid

l have the kef1005 series at the moment but feel they lack on warmth and dialogue,

If i upgrade my speakers as well i can get a package deal, however will a 450 quid amp run a speaker jump upto 3005

I did consider the 2005 but dont feel it would be much of a step up

Experiences and feedback would be appreciated

I auditioned the Kef 3005se with the Onkyo 606 and that seemed fine, so i guess your choice will be ok, the only thing is that they will sound better with something like the Onkyo 875 for around £670. Also try an audition with Sony 2400es or Yamaha ax873 although you might find that tricky as stock is very low. My money would be on an Onkyo amp. The best iv'e heard them with so try the 606 and if you can strectch to the 875 all the better.

Thanks, the shop also recc the 606, however i'm not sure l like the design and am leaning towards the denon.

Yamaha/sony also sounds interesting but they look hard to get hold of...

the reason for the question was one shop told me that this price bracket of amp would not be powerful enough for this range of speaker, however on forums a few people seem to have these combinations without issues. i didnt know if it was creeping excellence in order for me to push my budget.

my room is 14ft x 12ft (the 875 is outof budget) and the front line speakers will be raised up above he door line so need to be design friendly

Hi Scott,

bearing in mind the size of your room and that you want the speakers to be "design friendly", I feel that you ought to at least have a good listen to the 2005's. They are more compact than the 3005's, but at the same time a huge step up in quality from the 1005's. I have had both and can honestly say that the difference, for me, was night and day. I was using them both with the same Denon 1906. Of course, the 3005's are better still, but I think you ought to keep your options open and at least audition the 2005's. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Thanks Guys all good feedback and experience. I will listen to them back to back to get a true feel

The Denon is quoting 125 W/channel (although manufactures tend to exaggerate or quote the peak) its still 25watts over the 100watt rating of the speakers (2005 and 3005), even if I wont be driving them at the top end.

Or do you need the extra ratings to drive them to their full potential in the mid range (better detail than raw sound)
