Hiya,

I have just ordered a TX-P42G10B to replace my deceased Th-42PX80. I can remember all that fiddling around with the picture settings I did last year. I wonder if there are any recommended 'optimum settings' for this set available?

Thanks

Ideally you should set all these yourself as you'll have to factor in your rooms lighting conditions which can vary greatly from user to user and room to room.

If you don't wish to caliberate the set yourself I recommend that you select the Cinema/Movie option in the picture menu as I'm sure that will be a satisfactory compromise.

As you can see the spine of the story is in the link above. But I would just like to say a word about John Lewis.

When the 'problem' occurred I anticipated the usual few days to get an engineer and then the process to drag on (and possibly on and on and on...). Instead the man just said we will call you back within 24 hours. Actually he called back in 15 minutes...'...we can offer you a replacement/exchange immediately' i.e., no engineer, no inspection and no quibble. And this for a set bought in March 2008!

'Go onto the website and choose another TV. You paid £899 so if you choose a more expensive one we will have to charge you the difference, but if you choose cheaper we will refund the difference.

I admt to being pretty disraught when the problem occured as I really loved HD on that set. Hope I love the new one just as much! :)

Pretty impressive though JL!

1)What is the HD like on the built-in freesat?

2) Have you compared the same programme to Sky HD?

3) What is standard def TV like on the set?

cheers

Whereas I have a less-than-six-months-old John Lewis own-brand washer/dryer which has died once completely, and is now failing again. The best I've got out of JL's customer services is 'get it repaired again and if it goes wrong a third time we'll consider a replacement'

Grrrr...

Hi Dan.M,

The actual delivery is to be next Wednesday! But you may be sure I will post as soon as I have given it a good look! :) Having said that I won't be using the Freesat. Just the SKY...

:)

I received the TX-P42G10b yesterday, and after little fiddling about with the settings we decided just to leave it on normal and the picture is excellent

Picture excellent on SD freeview and blu ray pictures are awesome. Previously had a 32" panasonic LCD. Thinking of getting a dish fitted to try out freesat HD, but we are surrounded by a lot of trees so will be tricky
