Troubles connecting a Yamaha YSP-2200 Soundbar to a Philips 40PFL9704H TV

I have just purchased a Yamaha YSP-2200 Soundbar and have been trying to connect it (without success) to my Philips 40PFL9704H television.

In the set-up guide for the Yahama, it indicates that the two ways to connect the Soundbar to a television are by either:-

(i) an optical cable; or

(ii) a HDMI cable with the audio return channel supported terminal on the television.

So far as I can make out, my Philips TV has neither connection so I am left scratching my head as to what to do.

Any suggestions as to how to connect these two items will be gratefully received.
