total beginner question regarding surround sound formats

ok, i need some advice on all of the surround sound format.

Im about to plunge into the world of home cinema but my budget is the lowest of the low.

i have an lg bd390 bluray player and if i understand correctly it can decode dolby digital HD and dts HD?

My question is if i buy a reciever that can not decode the HD audio formats (the yamaha rxv367) will my bluray player do all the work and then the receiver push out HD audio.

I only want to connect the bluray player to it to be used purely for movies.

Does the LG BD390 have 5.1 analogue out outs? If it has then you can connect the player via these terminals and you will get HD sound formats. This is how my system is connected

Hi, im not sure.

I use the HDMI connection.

will the HDMI not carry the picture and audio signals?

Just had a look at the 367 specs, and it will decode all the formats you require, by connecting the BD player via HDMI.
