Hi all, I bought this Tosh for the bargain price of £49 from Amazon so I shouldn't really complain, but.......it works great with HD-DVD's and upscales SD-DVD's brilliantly (IMO). Having said that about the upscaling, the fact is that the player will not run properly with approx half of SD-DVD's that I try to play. The problem/fault is that the picture (and sometimes sound) disappear for approx half a second and it does this approx every 5-10 seconds! Obviously when this happens I have to use my non upscaling HD/DVD recorder which is OK but not as good as the Tosh (when the Tosh can be bothered to work, that is) I have already upgraded from the freebie HDMI lead but it didn't cure the fault. Has anyone else with this player experienced this? I suspect the Tosh may be faulty but I would appreciate any feedback from you guys and gals before I contact Amazon.

Try updating the firmware for the player, you`ll find the web address in the manual, there`s been 2 updates since I got mine.

Yep, firmware can either be downloaded from the Tosh website, or if you phone them they'll send you a disk.

On previous dealings with Amazon they too have been extremely helpful, so basically I'd get in touch with either asap!

Have you got it set to the highest setting 1080p/24 by any chance? If so, turn off 24 so it is only 1080p when playing DVD. The latest firmware fixes this I think.

Hi all,

I received the latest (generally available) firmware update and applied it, but it didn't make any difference. I also double checked my resolution setting. Is set to 720p (my TV is a Tosh 37WLT66 which is only 1080i max). I have spoken to Toshiba's technical chaps about this. Turns out that the EP-30 is known to have this fault on the WLT66 series tv's! The latest firmware fix does nothing for this problem. In fact, they do have a firmware fix specially for the problem, but you have to phone up and ask for it. It isn't available as a download on the net.

So, anybody out there with a Toshiba WLT66 series TV and a EP-30 HD DVD player, be aware, you need to contact Toshiba directly to get the correct firmware update.

I find it odd when a company doesn't make firmware available for download, had this been on the support site you may have found it and fixed it yourself in a matter of minutes. What's the harm in putting it on the support site with a bold statement saying for WLT66 owners only.

Nice to see that Toshiba products work well together, not! 🙂
