Hey a friend of mine is selling his old Marantz Pm 7001 for £200

how does the Marantz Pm7001 compare to todays competitors. Ie. Onkyo A9010 Uk or the Marantz Pm 5005. They're the same price. Is it a steal in 2016? Thanks

If its in good working order then yes as its 70w into 8ohm and 100 into 4ohm so basically more power but ive never heard them but id go with the 2nd hand. Do you need a dac?

Hi Andrew, thanks for the response. Im planning to get a DAC at a much later date. For now, I would just like to connect from Laptop, to this receiver and to my Q Acoustics 20s. Would I need a DAC? I just want to start listening to music from the speakers. Or should I just go for a receiver with a DAC included, around the price range. Any suggestions on which receiver would produce a better sound and control than the Marantz Pm 7001?

Thank You

£200 seems on the high side unless it's one of the KI Signature models. It's a good few years old now and I bought a bog standard one 2nd hand about 4/5 years ago for about £125.00.

I don't think they've increased in value in the interim period.

A really good amp though.

I used to own a PM7001. Thought it was a really good amp (i had it paired with SA7001 cd player and B&W 685 speakers).

I paid £300 for mine (around 10 years ago) and sold it last month for £140.
