I'm not sure if any of the above explains why BBB finds the film unnerving, but it's fun to unpack and there's definitely replay value.

It's similar to the Japanese film 'Dark Water' in the fact that it doesn't have (hardly) any jump out of your skin moments, and that it totally turns my stomach in knots.

I'm guessing that it's tension and atmosphere in a film that scares me more than the big jump moments.

I'm going to list 6 or so films that might make my final 3 or 4 , can you all let me know if you've seen them, and if you have, whether you mind watching them again?

Since I'm sure you've seen more Japanese films than I have, have you ever seen Pulse (Kairo)?

I keep meaning to watch it, but somehow never get around to it

Seen four of them, but don't mind seeing any again.

Ditto (predictably I haven't seen the two South Korean films).

I haven't seen The Vanishing (Spoorloos) in at least a decade, though. I think it's pretty expensive on DVD, but might be available on Netflix, Prime, or equivalent.

Not seen it, and hadn't heard of it until you mentioned it. I will have to check it out though, looks good

Sorry, I haven't watched MS yet. I had some horrible news and a pretty wretched weekend. I'll try and get it watched this week as I may need to go away for a couple of weeks.

I haven't seen any of BBBs films.

Sorry Richard, didn't mean to hassle you. Watch it when you get the chance, no rush.

I'm still undecided which films to nominate, as I understand I have to take cost and accessibility in to consideration, and some of these films might be a little hard to find at a reasonable price.

Thanks.

So February's film is 'The Vanishing'. Whatever you do, do not watch the American version instead, or by mistake, you'll regret it for the rest of your life, if not longer. *biggrin*

Another thing to avoid, is reading anything about it before you see it, it will definitely spoil it.

It might be a little expensive to buy, but I have found it new for under £7, and the full film is on You Tube if you want it for free.
