BBB, I watched one of your recommendations today, Throne of Blood. Can't remember if it's one you'd said you'd seem from that director? Really enjoyed it, the Macbeth story seems to work particularly well in the Japanese samurai setting.

I think I may have recommended it to you Ben, but I haven't actually seen it, though I'm sure I have it in my Kurosawa box set. I must get around to watching it.

I watched Sanjuro yesterday, it was quite superb. The best of that season that I watched.

Even though I have lots of films still to watch in my collection, I couldn't stop myself from buying 4 more from a charity shop at £1 each.

The Beekeeper

Last Life In The Universe

Japon

The Eel

Not heard of any of those but they look interesting, let us know what you think when you get a chance to watch them!

I was a bit worried that the Film Club was running out of steam. There seemed very little discussion around The Lives of Others, which I assume is done now ?

ive got As if I am not There out for later.

I am going to propose that we all have until the end of July to watch the June's film choice, and anyone who doesn't manage that, may as well resign their membership. I include myself in this.

Ok I've put the next film top of my lovefilm list, so should get it next week. Has the one after that been nominated and if not who's turn is it?

No, it's not been nominated. Mike proposed the current film to be watched, so I believe it's either Richard or David.

Sanjuro is great, though as you know, I prefer Yojimbo.

I've got several Japanese films recorded on my Sky box which I still need to watch.

Confessions

Late Chrysanthemums

Floating Clouds

Ikuru

As I am the most recent member, I guess it's David's turn before me.

Btw, I know my 3 already :)

We'll see what happens, but it could be you next. *wink*

I may have to try Yojimbo again now I've acclimatised myself to the content and style. Not seen any of the others, I rely on you for my Japanese cinema recommendations so let us know which ones are good and worth watching.

Ok. My 3 are

Angel-A http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473753/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

The Cityof Lost Children. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112682/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Bubba Ho Tep. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0281686/?ref_=nv_sr_2

I've not seen the top two, but have watched Bubba, albeit when first released. But it's completely brilliant.

I'm trying hard with my posting but since the website change it's proving difficult.

Bubba - 3 pts (looks insane, I like that kind of thing)

Angel-A - 2 pts

City Of Lost Children - 1 pt (I've seen it)

My votes are:

City - 3 pts - it is by the same team that made Delicatessen. Everyone else seemed to like Delicatessen, but it just didn't grab me first time. So I am intrigued to discover if I like this film better.

Bubba ho-tep - 2 pts - I agree with BBB, that the film sounds insane, but it has got some good reviews, and is a worthy second choice for me.

Angel - A - 1 pt - Sounds a bit formulaic to me - a loser is suicidal, but an angel gets sent to save them.

Interesting sounding film on film4 at 1.10am tonight: Mr Death: the Rise and Fall (etc)

Sky box is set to record, thanks.

I'd recommend Shaolin Soccer on tomorrow at 10.50pm on film4. It's not high end entertainment, and Kung Fu Hustle is a superior Stephen Chow film, but it is entertaining.

Thanks BBB, I'll try and remember to set it to record, sounds entertaining.

Can we get votes from David and JD? Have to say I'm finding these processes very frustrating when people don't vote and don't discuss the films.

I know how you feel. I will make an effort today to rewatch The Lives of Others with the directors commentary, to discover if that sheds any new light on the topics that we discussed a few weeks ago. This will clear the forum, ready for As if i am not there.

Normally it should be me to start the discussion about As if i am not there, but I think that we are still waiting for some members to watch the film. I am tempted to watch it again myself, to try and answer some questions that I had after my first viewing.

I have seen all of these before, but not for some time now, so I don't mind revisiting any of them. As City Of Lost Children is by the same team as Delicatessen, I'll vote the following:

City Of Lost Children 3points

Bubba Ho-Tep 2 points

AngelA 1point

I think we're all waiting to watch it! BBB gave us a 'summer break' and allowed us to the end of this month to watch it. If lovefilm are playing ball I should have it tomorrow.
