Watched Berberian Sound Studio last night, really not sure what to make of it.

I really liked Berberian Sound Studio. Ben and I discussed the film on here roughly a year ago.

I've still only seen the film once and forgotten much of what I thought about it. As I recall, I concluded that it was a film about the all consuming nature of creative process. The film ends with Toby Jones disappearing into the screen, after becoming increasingly unable to distinguish fiction from reality, right?

There was also a question of whether Toby Jones' character becomes complicit in violence through being party to its representation. I really need to watch the film again. A single viewing can only take you so far...

I have to admit to not being 100% focussed at all times, but you have the ending about right. It's a very atmospheric film, quite claustrophobic really, and I'm not quite sure how much I enjoyed it. I think a second viewing is essential to really get your head around everything.

It reminded me of Repulsion actually, and that's got to be a good thing.

There's still no decent Region 2 Blu-ray release. When you look at some of the awful catalogue titles distributors release on the format, something's going wrong somewhere.

OK Strapped.

I'm watching Papillion on BBC4 at the moment, which is looking pretty good in HD.

 Cheers to 1,000 post of the WHF film club :)

That's an average of about 333 posts per film so far..... ;)

Bear in mind that we'd clocked up roughly 600 posts before watching our first nominated film.

It's nice to have BBC4 HD!

I was never too excited by Papillon. I'm not sure why. Admittedly it's a good decade since I last watched the film.

The picture's pretty good, I have to say.

It's either watch Papillion, or something I've recorded. I have Spanking The Monkey on the hard drive, which judging by the storyline and reviews, should be an interesting watch.

Well I've seen it before on a couple of occasions, so if everyone has seen and is ready to discuss it, feel free.

Expat Mike and JD need to confirm don't they? I'm losing track. :?

I can confirm that I watched Tzameti last night.

It's a few years since I watched Papillon but I remember that the film didn't excite me at the time.

Sightseers is on at 9pm on film4 on Boxing Day, quirky, dark British humour, well worth a watch.

I've already set the Sky box to record it. Looks interesting.

I'm guessing it should fit with your sense of humour :)

I'm hoping it might. Atleast one of my next 3 choices will be a very black comedy film. You have been warned. :)

I have found the discussions about the non-nominated films an interesting aspect of the club. They have provided many links/ideas to investigate further.

Happy Christmas to you all. :)

On Film4 over the next week, watch out for Troll Hunter, The Host and The Hidden Fortress too Ben.

Also Red Hill looks interesting.
