The SMALL - LARGE question again?

Great forum ...

With a new Yamaha 2065, AE Evos and a great plasma - The Yamaha setup gives (the usual) LARGE for all speakers including the surround back and a crossover of 60Hz. I know we are told to go SMALL / 80Hz - is this the case for me do you recon?

Although things sound really good its always the front channel and the sub which needs tweaking. Any recommendations to tweak settings from the auto settings?

Cheers

Try it on 60Hz, then 100Hz and see you hear a difference. If not, don't worry too much, but setting it higher eases the amplifier's load, and keeping the crossover points the same makes the sound from each speaker more uniform, especially if they're different sizes.

I usually add about 1dB to the centre, and the sub is a mater of taste. After watching 5-10 films, you should find an ideal level for your sub. Take off any settings that are variable in relation to the volume as I've never had much joy with them. And if you move your sub, even an inch or two, you'll have to run the auto set up again!

I don't know about your Yamaha amp, but mine gives you the choice of sending LFE effects to both the front main and the sub, providing you have large front mains. The bass effect is very pleasing in this mode.

For what it's worth, I have mine set up the same as Chudleighpaul, and feel that this method delivers a more effective feeling of bass for me.

Always worth experimenting, so easy to do with the OSD menu of the Yamaha, and then trim the results of a period of time to what suits you...................

Thanks to you all for your responses.

I will enjoy experimenting along these lines. I am presently decorating so am unable to settle my system. Deckchairs and boxes are the order of the day. But I will certainly try these and report back soon.

Kind regards

Rob

PS - The Yamaha 2065 is great but the annoying 'click' when changing channels is a little nuisance. Guess there is no solution tho ??

Is that not a spike of sound from the Sky box or whatever, would have thought the amp could only amplify what it is given external to itself...............hence my thought re the set top box
