Yes, a very good cabinet and drivers. They don't make them like that anymore. I changed the tweeter ff and added a little damping to the enclosure. Very happy.

This replaced a pair of £5000 RRP speakers I didn’t get on with.

what effect will the damping have did the tweeter fail ?

I can only think of what that setup must sound like.
Interesting combo of pre and power amps....
You must appreciate valves....
Yes. Been using AR since the early 90s. The valves in my current amp need replacing really, but it's an expense I can't afford at the moment. After using various solid state phono stages (Graham Slee & Trichord to name a couple) I came across the EAT petite. I Loved it and eventually upgraded to the EAT E Glo S. The Ref 5 SE and EAT E Glo S go so well together. I can't imagine moving away from them now.
My last three power amps were MF (P270 that I had for 25+ years), then Bryston ( 3B then 4B ST). I was all set set to buy a Bryston 4B3 to continue the synergy with my PMCs but by chance took home the ex dem Burmester from Criterion Audio for a home demo and never took it back ( I did pay for it!).
As a stroke of incredible luck, the 036 had a buzz that just couldn't be rectified, so it went back to Burmester for repair. To my astonishment they sent me back a new one!
It would be crass to say it doesn't sound great, but you know how it is. Always looking for the next tweak!
In truth, my room isn't really big enough to let it breath properly but my hifi is my pride and joy. Just wish I got to listen to it more!

I was interested in that E Glo S myself...

I'd agree but unfortunately it's more expensive than the one I already own unless I can find a discounted one somewhere.
I'm not sure I've ever seen one come up 2nd hand. I'm guessing they're just keepers?!?
Have you considered the Petite? I was very happy with mine. There is currently an ex dem one available on line though it may be a step down from your TE phono stage.

🤷‍♂️

You have Eversolo DAC Z8!
Me too! 😀
Hi Jason...yeah just got the z8 around 2 weeks ago.....when I took out the Acoustic Energy ae1 actives and added the Electrocompaniet and the Dali's...the Wiim ultra was starting to show it's limitations, the sound had become a tad more forward and in your face, I swapped in my brooklyn bridge (temporarily) and it sorted out the short comings of what I was hearing....so started to do some research for a decent dac that wouldn't break the bank.....found the z8 ex demo mint condition for £430....working a absolute treat with the Electrocompaniet and the Dali's......the Wiim has been put to use as a transport....now I get the best of both worlds.....Album art and vu meters.🤣🤣

Excellent 👌
I've been banging on about the Eversolo drum, really is a quality DAC.
The two USB inputs is a real bonus.
Enjoy 😊
Love VDU meters!

A few more shots from that setup. It was all alien to me as there were brands there way out of my price range that I haven't really heard of - most of the individual components cost more than my whole system 😂

From what I can figure out:

  • Mitchell Gyrodec turntable with T8 tonearm and Cusis S cartidge
  • Auralic Vega G2.2 Streaming DAC
  • Harbeth C7ES-3 XD2 speakers
  • Advance Paris X-P1200 Pre Amplifier
  • Chord Electronics Ultima PRE 3 Pre Amplifier
  • Chord Electronics Ultima 6 Power Amplifier
All absolutely stunning. The two guys in the shop preferred the Advance Paris pre-amp to the costlier Chord Electronics equivalent. They'd just received the Harbeth speakers and they were absolutely stunning.

I had a pretty good chat with them while we listened to some Blues and put off paying for my new turntable. My local Hi-Fi store closed down a good 15 years back and they said that the market is very, very tough at the moment.

It was actually quite ominous how it sounded. When I said that I was looking at some headphones next (I tried the Meze 105 AERs) but wouldn't buy today, they said "don't leave it too long" when I said I might come back to get those. Maybe I'm reading too much between the lines, but I know Audio-T have closed a few stores in the past.PXL_20250326_102846731.jpgPXL_20250326_102857302.jpgPXL_20250326_102839095.jpg
