Good idea! Now would they have dealers in Belgium...

Check www.lsound.eu. They allow 45-day home trial.

Yes, that's where I found out they exist 8^). But if I don't like them, the return shipping is on me (which might be quite substantial when sending a sub to Norway)... So if a demo is feasible, I'd prefer a brick&mortar dealer. If not, I've already bookmarked the lsound-website!

Hence why manufacturers need proper representation in the UK, as SVS have done. Take note Ken Kreisel!

+1 on the JL Audio subs. I used an F112 with a pair of ATC scm50asl's.

A pair of the new JL Audio Dominion subs would be best I think.

Hi Matt

Top quality subs Moving up a couple of gears you should hear a Fathom f212 and SCM100ASL's *biggrin*

Anyway, Dominion's along with another with their other new toy the JLink (wireless transmitter ) start to ship next month.

All the best

Hi Rick

an F212 and scm100's would be stunning, or two F212's for some real bass punishment :D

The JLink will be a very handy device too, not just for ease of positioning, but less cable clutter.

cheers

Matt

JL Audio, Velodyne (Ultra/DD Series), Paradigm and SVS (SB13 Ultra)

Stereophile reviews: http://www.stereophile.com/category/subwoofer-reviews

FWIW. The best small Sub I've heard was the Paraidgm Seismic 110

Thanks for the link Cno, particularly the section on the science behind subwoofers. I think I'm in the camp of quality, not quantity, given my lounge is a suspended wooden floor, then it could easily be overwhelmed. My target is to get a flat response to 40Hz, so that bottom E on the bass guitar is reproduced fully. I think the Dspeaker Antinode will probably be extrememly useful in setting it up, so will need to factor that into the cost equation, unless I could borrow one of course!

If your floor is suspended, an Auralex Gramma is essential.

FWIW Here is an ex-dem Seismic: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Paradigm-Seismic-110-Subwoofer-/271856891944?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368

I was so impressed when I heard it, I wrote this: http://www.whathifi.com/forum/hi-fi/paradigm-seismic-110-sub

On the test bench: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/subwoofers/subwoofers-reviews/paradigm-reference-seismic-110-subwoofer/page-4-the-paradigm-reference-seismic-110-subwoofer-on-the-bench.html

This little fellow is also impressive: https://www.hsound.co.uk/product/velodyne-spl-800-ultra-subwoofer/

Wot's what?

As for positioning a sub in the room, there seem to be several 'schools':

1. Plunk it anywhere out of sight, preferably in a corner, to gain efficiency; sub-100 Hz sound is not directional anyway.

2. In front of the listening position, preferably at equal distance as the main speakers; even better in between the main speakers (but not right in the middle).

3. Whatever the sub's position or crossover-frequency, don't go for less than two subs (four is better!); whoever proclaims bass is not directional is cloth-eared.

With a good DSP at hand (Antimode, DEQX, sub's own DSP, whatever), which rule(s) should still be taken into account? What esthetically and socially acceptable solution could one get away with?

Hi Matt

A Fathom f212 with SCM100ASL's is indeed stunning. I was listening to Seeing In The Dark (Champion's Selection - Patrick Chardronnet) through this combination and the performance was just awesome with a tight fisted, deep, fast and powerful bass. Two Fathom f212's too much

Only kidding *biggrin* The more the merrier

Btw, excellent track

You're spot on about their JLink

Sorry, I didn't see this.

It is an isolation device that was designed for guitar amps and also works for Speakers and Subs. They also do the SubDude.

Cno, the ATCs are on their rounded cones (not spikes) sat upon a marble slab. How are the Aurelex pads going to help?

IME. The Auralex are specifically designed for the job making them more effective...though I was really talking about any Sub you might get.

FWIW. I use both, with the Granite under the Auralex.

I also have my speakers on them, but have a wooden surround, to give them stability. I photographed it here for Ben Law:

http://www.whathifi.com/forum/your-system/bens-hifi?page=2

Nb. This DIY platform raises the speakers up by about 85mm, so tweeter height can be an issue.
