Subwoofer & Amp

Hi all,

First time poster here.

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas of a subwoofer with a built in amplifier?

I have been looking at the Sony HT IS 100 which is a spectacular bit of kit for the cost however is comes with 5.1 and was curious as to whether it is a common thing to have the amp built in to the subwoofer as this saves on space.

I would appreciate any knowledgeable advice.

All decent subs have a built in amp. Audition a few at a dealers.

All active subwoofers have intergrated amplifiers powering them.

Passive subwoofers however, that usually form part of a 'home cinema in a box' system do not have an integrated amplifier and instead draws power from the main unit itself - which is the amplifier and dvd player/blu-ray player housed as one unit.
