re-use remnants of Boston Acoustics speaker package or buy new?

Hi all

I've kept an old Denon AVR-X200 in the loft with the remaining 3 speakers and subwoofer of a Boston Acoustics Soundware system.

We're planning in some renovations to our house that will free up a larger and more convenient space for the TV, so I'd like to reuse what I've got. The space is not huge, which limits speaker choice, and I'm really looking at re-use or a small outlay - house renovations are sadly not cheap.

As I'm missing 2 of the original 5 speakers, would I be better either going for a new matched set (which would have to be a budget set) or just filling in 2 of the missing? I can easily get some bookshelf speakers for the front pair, but I'm not sure how 'matched' these system speakers are and whether it would sound off - noting I will of course re-set the amplifier when I set it all up, and amazingly I've managed to not lose the little microphone!

Any advice gratefully received.

I sold a full Boston Acoustics 5.1 sat/sub set on eBay. As part of refurbing the living room I revamped the whole AV instal. On the speaker side I went for 7.1 Cambridge Audio.

In their day, the BA was a well rated set, including here on WHF. If you’re on a budget and looking for consistency, I’d have a look at well rated sellers on eBay listing BA items, studying the descriptions and pics carefully. There’s loads on right now, including individual sat speakers.

Good luck.
