Streaming AM Hi-Res via Line In

I’m planning on getting either the Era 300 or Audio Pro C20 speaker but have a query on getting the best out of my set-up.

I’m currently subscribed to Apple Music and was planning on using the line in connection from the speaker to my MacBook Pro via a HELM DAC/aux cable.

Will this enable me to listen to Apple Music Hi-Res lossless or at least 24bit/48khz? Or have I missed something?

To the best of my knowledge, MacOS works the same as Windows and Linux, it simply runs at a fixed sample rate and bit depth as set in the Audio Midi. No automatic sample rate switching.
This applies both to the headphone out and a USB DAC.

I asked this very question 3 years ago. A really nice guy from England helped me out and it went like this in the very short abbreviated form:

go buy ad Denefrips rec locker there are 2 versions pick one

Then go buy one of their DACs I bought the middle of the road one and there is now an even better one available 15th

Then plug your hi end usb cable from your computer (mac mini) to the reclocker.

Then plug a high resolution HDMI cable from the rec locker to the DAC they call it I2S

Then plug in a cable from the DAC to your preamp.

Sit back and you will be blow away, like that Maxell...

The windows version you need a driver... mac is plug and play. well that isn't completely true you need to go to the Apple midi and turn up the bits and clocks...... then it really shines.

You don't unless you run a pre-2017 version.
In 2017 Microsoft bought the UAC2 driver from Thesycon. From that time on Win is both UAC1 and UAC2 compatible just like OSX and Linux.
