Maybe we’ve got our wires crossed on model numbers, but here in GB the Thorens is about 50% more expensive. I’d have a Thorens any day!

What are their respective prices where you live?

Around 1200 for this model. Is it a lot better than my Argon?

Well, I’m going on its long-standing reputation, and the fancier TD1500 which I was very interested in at one time.

I’ve not even seen an Argon that I’m aware of, but they look decent enough. However, I can’t imagine you’d be disappointed in a Thorens. (They were Swiss originally, but like everything these days they’re from the far East these days)

I agree with @nopiano, cannot say I have heard or even seen either deck bit if you can get the Thorens at a good price it might be the one to go for.
Most Thorens I have encountered were not direct drive though.
At least they don't fit the usual 2M Red cartridge....... 🙂

The nice thing about the Thorens it has a headshell now instead of the old fixed one which makes it versatile if you like changing between cartridges.

Have a 1957 Thorens TD124 & still works flawlessly after 69years & Mint condition ones fetch £10,000 +
Artisan Fidelity TD124 are $40,000

TD124 / SME3009/ Shure V15 III all made in the 1950/60s
The chinese made turntables will last well into the 22nd century & will be worth a small fortune in the future to your grandchildren

I went to the store today and changed the TT for a new one. The employee helped me install the plate, setup the cartridge and I went home; no crackling noise when moving the lever. In the store they told me they never heard another costumer about this 'problem'. Now I hope this TT will not generate the same sound within a month. If so, I'm going back and ask my money back.
But this TT is such a nice one, I hope it stays OK and I can enjoy it for the coming years.
So I'll try this Argon TT4mk2 again 🙂.

I would have thought if it was a common issue some one out would have mentioned it has well.
Hope it will be fine .👍

I have the Argon Audio TT4 Mk2 for a month now. It's a fantastic player!

Today I suddenly noticed that when I use the cueing lever to raise the tonearm, I hear a crackling sound that sounds like static electricity.

The turntable is grounded; the wire for that is connected to the speaker, which has an amplifier inside.

Is this static electricity or something else? How can I fix this? I see it's only in the lever; it's not touching the tonearm when this crackling sound is heard.
Most of the time the sound is only there after a couple of minutes playing.
When I drop the lever and raise is again, the sound is not noticeable. Play a full record; the sound is there again.
Argon says it’s the dampening fluid.

You can hear it in the video too.
Anyone can tell me what this is?

When you watch the video, turn up the volume.

I've listened to the video & it seems to be static from you to the lever ?? try lifting the lever with a pencil or piece of wood or even try it with a pair of rubber gloves because I'm not sure if the earth cable is grounded so try connecting the cable to a different ground earth pin. 🙂 👍
