It depends on whether your streamer supports lossless audio and it is switched on in the app and player.
(Congested normally means you are playing the lossy format or there is something seriously wrong)

Iam not a big streamer and had only ever used basic Spotify not for serious listening ,i then tried Apple Music with a free trial that sounded much better.
More recently i have been using my CD60 DAC to play CDS rather than the RCA on the CD 60 this is when i noticed a big improvement in the sound, yesterday i felt lazy thought i try Spotify out and instantly notied the difference .I cant justify subscribing for streaming has i only realy use it to discover new artists ,genres .

Lossless is the way forward i agree.

Ah, the basic service has limited quality so I'm not surprised it sounded poor.

Just to clarify. How is the CD connected to your amp?

If connected via RCA then you would be using the CD players DAC.

If connected via digital (optical/coaxial/HDMI) then it would use the amps DAC.

It’s connected via optical now I prefer this to the RCA connection .only recently changed it to optical .i thought the CD dad would have been the better one .
The main difference is at low volume it’s much better
