Spotify Lossless

I actually think that my spell of having Spotify and TIDAL has made me end up preferring the UI of TIDAL. I certainly have benefited from the Daily Discovery algorithm on there.

It's costing about £30 a month to have a TIDAL account and the Premium Family tier on Spotify. I could save myself £10/11 a month by cancelling TIDAL but I'm not sure. Maybe once the lossless stuff actually reaches my account I'll give Spotify's recommendations engine another shot and see if I can adapt back to their interface.

Aherm and that's record_spot if you please...!

24-bit / 44.1kHz FLAC and hopefully they'll start to roll out 88.2, 176.4 and 192kHz additions in time. Although seeing as they've taken four (or eight when the first rumours started kicking around) years to get this up and running, I'm not holding my breath. I think I'll stick with Qobuz for now though.

What's finally here the analogue ?been around for many years now ,lossless analogue ,I will no be fooled into buying that lol

Hehe, this is great news for me! (Mostly as II’d given up hope.)

I didn’t noticed any UI changes in the app today. Just looked at my account & nothing to indicate steaming quality as I can see.. I’m so used to Tidal telling me whether a release is cd quality or higher, so now I want that on Spotify.

I need to look at whether selecting my Linn as a speaker in Spotify runs it at full quality or if it’s a Bluetooth connection. If it’s the former that’s even better as I can avoid using the Linn app. It’s not terrible but it’s slower & more fiddly than my nearly 20 years of using Spotify.

When can I start listening?

Lossless is rolling out gradually to more than 50 markets through October. Premium subscribers in Australia, Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden, the US, and the UK have already started to get access."

Gradual rollout over the next few weeks so you may not be in the initial group @Revolutions . Go to settings and check bandwidth.

I have it ,I don't need Spotify ,it's better than Spotify by an absolute mile

Will they finally do it after years of fake news?

If so Spotify would have to offer something special to tempt me as a long time Quobuz and Tidal user.
If it's cheaper, it may sway a lot of people. If they're pitching it 24 bit 44.1kHz, it needs to be price competitive, Quobuz and Tidal are still offering higher sampling rate.

Interesting. I actually stopped Tidal just as I couldn't get on with it. Apart from the Spotify algorithm seemingly being better, I prefer its UI - might also be as I am more used to it but hey.

Also the fact that the Tidal app does not work with Apple Watch is annoying. With Spotify, I can use my watch as remote, for example if I am walking around and listening on my headphones, without having to pull my phone out. Tidal just doesn't sync no matter what I do.

So, already having Apple Music and Spotify, Tidal had to go....

I guess not many people will be able to tell the difference between 44.1 or 96 khz or whatever in reality.

Whenever I listen to Tidal, music seems to have a bit more "sparkle", but I suspect it might be confirmation bias...

In Tidal itself there is a clear difference between the lowest lossy MP3 tier and the CD quality (16/44) tier, let along the Max tier.

Additionally, at the lossy level, Spotify sounds better with superior clarity. Tidal lossy really does not sound good at all.

Is there a price hike for it, at one time they were saying it was going to be double the cost and in which case I think a lot if users will stay with their alternative providers.

Nope, Premium subscribers get it as standard, however £11.99 month is £1 higher than a number of other providers, on the other hand the user interface is still one of (If not) the best.
