After watching a horizon program on introducing a spiders gene into a goats dna.

Which after a filterig process produced a silk from the goats milk.

This was reported to be stronger and more flexible than kelvar.

Could the new material be used commercially in future loudspeakers ?

Well I guess if you could make it into part of a composite (matrix / resin) structure then you'd be able to create very lightweight thin yet strong cones.

Would think it'd be very expensive to use for something like speaker cones though especially when paper, paper/carbon etc does a pretty good job (and currently used in a lot of high end speakers). Having said that I've seen some of the suggested uses ranging from rust free body panels to biodegradable drinks bottles..
