Speakers cut out at higher volumes

Hi folks

I just got some Arcam Muso bookshelf speakers and running them through a Kenwood KA-3020 amp. When I turn the volume up past a certain point the sound cuts out and then sort of cuts in and out until I turn it back down. This happens at a pretty quiet volume, not way up.

Any suggestions on what the cause is?

Thanks!
Pete

That sounds more like an amp issue to me, too - I'd expect a speaker just to start to distort when you get beyond what it can handle.
Agreed, could well be the case. However, some amps have very sensitive protection circuits and trigger very easily. The OP's view of low volume could equate to very loud for some of us; really need a dB reading as the position of volume dial tells us nothing.
