hello,

could someone tell me why spikes have to be made from metal? ive bought some silicon feet off ebay to try (as spikes are quite expensive) and even with my eltax speakers the sound difference is very noticeable!

A spike is made from metal because it needs to be hard and rigid. For the stand to have as little contact with the floor as possible it needs to have spikes and not blunt nobs.

Decoupling is a different idea though...

Spikes are OK if the speakers are standing on thraditional thick carpet as they allow a good contact with the floor underneath (assuming it is solid). They might not be the best solution on solid floors and certainly might prove to be less than optimum on suspended floors.
