I find is amazing people still use rubbish cable. I have always bought good quality cable, not because I was told to, but because I listened to the difference and felt (for me) it gave an adequate improvement for the amount of money I cost.

I use Chord odyssey on my system, speak to someone at Chord and see what they recommend for your system, they actually know what they are talking about!

So pros use rubbish cable do they, just because they don't cost £100pm does not mean they are rubbish, as long as its thick enough copper for the length thats all you need. Quite a few ex Chord users have found Van Damme are much better.

I have got van damme hi fi cable and bought some second hand chord odyssey2 to test, i find the odyssey better but defintely not 4 times better.

The van damme is what i recommend as it's a good cheap cable for the money.

Oooh I say vicar how very dare you.

So recommending ofc and saving the OP a few bob is trolling eh ?.

Will be good to read the OPs findings after his trip to Audio T .

Now lets say he prefers the Black Rhodium Tango , does that ,in itself , make it a superior wire ?.

Only to his ears Mr P_M ,only to his ears.

Of course the fact that Black Rhodium is plastered all over the sheathing will have no sway in the test outcome will it ,lol.

My take on cables.......

They do make a difference!

I swappen from Carnival Silver Screen to Rumour expoecting it to be a bit brighter - it wasnt, it actually sounded a little laid back compared to the SilverScreen - However the difference was not that big.

I have now got used to the Rumour, I will keep it now but I would be more than happy with SilverScren.

Whilst I have absolutely no truck with digital cables, experience has told me that analogue cables do sound different to each other. However, it isn't always the more expensive ones that sound the best. I'm currently using Atlas Equator II interconnect with Chord Carnival Silverscreen and it seems to work well without being a horrifically expensive combination. I do have some Rumour 2 in the cupboard.

I can quite believe that a basic 522 strand copper speaker cable works fine, but I'm not convinced about using the standard shoe-string interconnects. I have tried them a couple of times after reading Rick's recommendations and they've sounded pretty hideous to me but maybe it is just 'expectation bias'. Who knows??!!

Rick

You might be on to something! I've been listening with the freebie interconnects that came with the CD player tonight and it sounds great.

Might have to get some of that speaker cable now as well.

Cheers

Matthew.

Hi Matthew

Thanks. Some of the freebie interconnects I use came supplied with the Trio M-50 Midi system which I bought in 1986. Solid, reliable and easy to use.

Simple is best.

I used to buy into your mindset once upon a time. To use a specific and easy example though, I swapped out some Audioquest Type IV speaker cable. I think this now retails for somewhere between £10-15 a metre. I put in some 400-strand 2.5mm cable, and it's still there. The difference was so minimal it's barely worth writing about. If anything, the 400-strand is the better of the two to my ears. The Type IV is in a cupboard and unused.

I've just bought some 322-strand OFC speaker cable on Ebay - the stuff you have I think RS, from Digitalis Direct - and will report back with my findings later in the week. For £6 for 10 metres it has to be worth a go!

Yep, sounds like it Matthew, nothing fancy, nice and easy to fit and sounds fine. Hope you like it. Need to sell off my Type IV come to think of it...!

When you do sell it (Ebay?), don't forget to use the most flowery terms you can think of to describe its magical quailities. That's bound to add an extra few quid per metre to the price

LOL, sadly, I'm not up to the more prosaic descriptive qualities you sometimes read, so I imagine you'll see something a little less flowery!

Hi guys interesting to get all your views. TO GIVE YOU MY RESULTS I got some ofc cable and some Blackrhodium Tango bi-wire, I tested both for around 4 hours with my budget system, ARCAM CD73 ROTEL RA05 SE AMP and monitor audio br5. RESULTS I found the Blackrhodium Performed best, More Detail better stereo image, better timing and a more dynamic sound over the ofc.... In all areas the results were just a little better than the cheap cable not by a huge margin but all the same a better sound, SO YES the £165 cable did perform better in my eyes worth the extra cash after all to spend £500 on my amp £500 on my CD player and £500 on my speakers, the Extra £165 wa worth the investment, Thanks guys

lol - yet another cable thread, another punter ignoring good advice and wasting his money.

Note the key phrase in bold...

I find it crazy that you would invest money in decent separates only to lash up the components with substandard cabling.

Hi p_m_brown

I would say that the cables i use are anything but substandard. The standard 500 strand OFC speaker cables i am using work superbly between the Hiato amplifier and Pl200 speakers

All the best

Rick @ Musicraft

Never heard any of this high end stuff but I can't help but referto my earlier point about hindering performance...

Hi p_m_brown

Fair enough but i would not use standard speaker cables to hinder the performance of a near £10k amp and £5k speakers. I am not into bling.

Al the best
