Can anyone help a Newbie on here?

My daughter's Sony CMTNEZ7DAB won't switch on properly.

The red standby light just blinks constantly.

If I pull the cord out and reconnect, the unit starts very briefly. The display starts to illuminate and the tape transport turns a bit...then it goes back to the blinking (literally) standby.

The tape was jammed shut. I managed to ease it open. (It's now permanently open!)

If I open the unit up, what should I look for?

Would a tape transport fault cause this? My daughter thinks this is a second coincidental fault.

Check there isn't a short in the speaker wires. It could even be a speaker issue, disconnect the speakers and see if it still behaves the same way.

I've already tried that Chris. It does just the same with no speakers attached.
