I've got a Philips 42" LCD which is only 1080i, not 24fps,5000:1 Contrast Ratio etc, etc ...... as i mainly watch BluRay's will i notice a big difference in the Sony KDL40V4000- obviously much better spec's

So before i spend my money- can get the Sony for 700Euro- i watched Casino Royale on BluRay and to be perfectly honest the picture is sublime (IMO) , and i am quiet happy with the Philips, however i cant help thinking i could be missing out on that bit more..............

Any thoughts/recommendations much appreciated

if the picture is sublime on your philips why upgrade? particularly to a budget model, and why go down a size of TV?, will you not miss the size now that you are used to it? if the 42" is great can you get a 46" or at least stay at 42"?

why not save your pennies until you can afford the w4500 or even the z4500 or whatever is new out at these price points by the time you have the cash.

Or how about spending the cash on a higher specced blu-ray player than the ps3? there is a chance that this may be the limiting factor in your current set up and a new TV may make little difference until you upgrade that too.

Best thing you can do is demo some TV's with the ps3 and bluray and see if you notice a difference you are willing to pay for, if the sony looks 700euro better in your eyes then get it, if not then save your pennies.

Whoo Hoo a reply! cheers SG79, to me the picture is sublime and as its 'only' a Philips i thought the Sony would prove a big difference..........

Also as i live in Dublin theres not a cat in hells chance of a demo here, id be lucky if they gave me a go of the remote control

and the price of a 46" is savage-about 2K-2.5K

I think your right SG79, im happy with what ive got (for the time been) i'll save me pennies and do a substantial upgrade later

Cheers and Happy New Year

Hi,

You can't get to a Sony dealership and take a well watched disc (BD or DVD) to compare with what you already have?

If you can, remember to set the TV in the shop to more realistic levels. No doubt the brightness will be set to high and mode to Dynamic.

This would surely put your mind at rest - ultimately only you can answer your query.

Happy New Year to you too.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.
