Sony KD32D3000 switches itself off?

I have had a KD32S3000 in use for some time now and it's performance is generally excellent.

However from time to time the set will switch itself off and back on immediately. A relay can be heard to click on off and on at the same time.

This problem seems to be related to certain channels, mostly Channel 5 but even BBC1 does it times.

Somtimes this will happen two or three times in an evening, other evenings not at all.

Signal strength according to the Tv's own readout is maximum for all channels.

Would like to know whether the set is at fault or if it's a problem which will go away when the analogue signal switches off.

Thanks for any help to resolve this problem.

Sounds like a fault. Or the Channel 5 quality filter built into some of these Sony sets, which switches off every time there's a programme about prewar Germany or 75-stone teens with two heads and legs covered in tree-bark.

Seriously, I think this is one for the service centre.

Yes, definitely one for your local authorised repairer. Only thing I would be tempted to try first would be a full reset of the TV. If you go into the Setup menu there is an 'All Reset' option. Choosing that will reset everything and take you back through the initial set-up procedure. If that doesn't work its time to call your dealer or local authorised repair agent.

Have recently spoken to my local Sony Centre again about this problem.

They say that as long as the power warning light does not change from green to red during the switch off process, then it is a signal problem and there is nothing they can do. Is this correct?

I have exactly the same fault on the same model tv. I put it down to the kids.

So the TV channels are sending some kind of signal that tells the set to turn off? New one on me...

Well, tell them to stop emitting spurious infrared signals...

Just a couple of questions; are you using an external box, or the tv's internal tuner and, do you have anything connected via the scart sockets. Sometimes if one of these works loose, it can trigger the standby function momentarily - it just depends which side of the plug has come out. I've experienced this before with a different tv, but isolated the problem to a loose scart plug.

Connected to BT Vision via scart but cuts out while using TV tuner never cuts out while soaps on just when interesting programmes

are on.Have had the kids checked lots of faults ,but no infrared signals.

Could be a dis-interested wife. Failing that try turning off the scart control setting both on the telly and the BT vision, if you can, or disconnect the scart to see if the fault stops. If it continues to happen with the scart disconnected it's probably a fault on the telly. If it only happens with the box connected it could be a faulty lead or box (or a loose scart plug as stated earlier). It's worth checking all these as it could save you sending the tv back unnecessarily.

Good work - infrared kids can have dietary causes...

Thanks for that Sam68

The set is running on it's own Freeview tuner. Scart sockets are not used.
HXD870 DVD recorder is coupled to the set using the HDMI cable.

However, this has promted the thought, does the problem still arise using the DVD tuner? I will check it out and report back.

And of course the RF signal from the aerial passes through the DVD first.

Now you've said it's a Sony DVR connected via HDMI, I'm wondering if it's some kind of Bravia Sync glitch, or perhaps some kind of EPG-driven signals being received by the recorder which are affecting the TV via that HDMI control connection.
