Sony HW30ES (Is this Normal?) ?

I bought a Sony HW30ES and I think the picture quality is very weird, it could not display Black scene properly. The vendor told me my settings have problem, but I tried all the settings including factory modes, its all the same.

Scenes without black are 100% perfect. Also, bolded words on microsoft word are pitch black. I think this projector is faulty, I have tried with my Apple laptop and other computers, receiver and players. Its all same.

Please check these pictures:

Black credit scenes looks completely fake and letter box are not black.

Looks like you have it zoomed to a 2.35:1 image hence you get the black bars top and bottom as overspill but as you have light walls you can see them. Try changing the image size and make sure its not zoomed

Calibration will help but blacks are determined a fair bit by the ambient light of the room - too much white walls and ceiling will bleach your blacks / overall image
