Just picked up one of these today, plugged it in, setup wireless network, downloaded latest firmware and in the middle of installing it, the piece of junk shows 'SYS ERROR' on the display.

Seriously not happy, as I bought this online.

Have tried to hold down power button....it turns off, turns on again by itself, and opens the tray (almost like it is poking its tounge at me), and continues to display the same message.

Anyone else experience the same?

No, sorry, got mine home Wednesday evening, setup the wireless, initiated a firmware update and it all went fine, took quite a while mind, plenty of opportunity for a power glitch to kill it whilst it was updating, is that possible?

What you do about it I've no idea, it'll have to go back (which is exactly why I DIDN'T buy mine online...).

Which online retailer did you buy it from. If you've bought it from reputed retailers like Amazon, exchanging it will be easy. DHL will come t oyour place & pick the item up for returns, & you can place a fresh order for a new one. Amazon is usually quick at returns & refunds.

You have my sympathy. Did the network connection go down during the update? I must admit I am wary of this approach. My Oppo will do a network update, but I think a USB is safer.

I live in Denmark, so you prob wouldn't know the shop (Cinemagic?)

Anyways, I was on the phone to Sony and Cinemagic this morning...they'll pick it up next week and have a look.

It didn't take me too long to update the firmware, and it seemed to have installed the entire package. Just didn't like the new update I suppose.

I had just bought 3 blu-ray films, and was looking forward an evening of watching Hi def on my screen for the very first time....I didn't even get to try a film

Not sure if this helps. I have the BDP-360 and after a couple of weeks, i got the message wait, wait , wait and eventually Sys Error

Sent it back to Sony and got the usual, nothing wrong with it. Picked it up, plugged it back in and immediately, wait, wait, wait - Sys Error.

Called Sony and they told me to disconnect the HDMI cable, after which it worked fine. Plugged the HDMI back in and got the error message again. They sort of suggested that i use different connection cables, which of course i refused. After plugging the HDMI in and out half a dozen times it started to work again.

Might be worth trying this

No, the network was fine the entire time. I was using the net at the same time as updating.

Thanks IJ, I'll give it a try a bit later on...yeah, I got the wait, wait , wait messages too before the sys error.

I'm using HDMI 1.3 cables, and the one I was testing it on was previous used with my dvd recorder, so the cable is fine.

It isn't some kind of hand-shaking issue with the denon I wonder?

Steeps, certainly worth a try. I used 2 cables and it took a few attempts of plugging the cable in and out at the Blueray end before it worked.

I would disconnect the HDMI first and check if the machine runs ok, in that the welcome/Load/Home comes up.

Good luck

Gave it a try. The sys error message won't disappear no matter what I do with the cable or power.

Oh well....back to the shop it goes.
