I was initially looking at buying a KDL40W2000, but have also been tempted by the Panasonic PX70 or a PZ70. I can't make head nor tail of the stats, as initially thought pixels mattered, apparently not necessarily the case , and then I looked at higher contrast ratio's, which apparently can also be misleading. In addition I have not actually found any shops which stocks all models (especially PZ70) and have been unable to view side by side and with a high def feed. I have now been offered an ex-display KDL40X2000 for the £900 and can't decide which to go for. Sound doesn't matter, as I have a surround sound sytem, and I will be using a PS3 as the DVD source.

Can anyone recommend which to go for?

The sonys are quite old now i believe the w2000 is over a year old which is now replaced with the 3000 model ! Go for a panasonic there very good and i just got the pz70 like lots of others on here !

40X2000 for £900?????!!!!!!!!???????

As long as its in good condition that is an absolute bargain and I'd yank their arm off if I were you. We sold our last ones of these for about £1500. Its a great TV with both SD and HD material and, minus a couple of refinements such as the new 10-bit panel, its largely the same as the new W3000 (NOT the X3000/3500 which has a newer processor) which retails for much more. That 10-bit panel doesn't make a huge difference. Its the EX version of the Bravia Engine which is the selling point because it works so efficiently and makes the most of any source you use.
