All these albums are full of great drumming....

Red - King Crimson (Bill Bruford)

Selling England By The Pound - Genesis (Phil Collins)

Dream Theater albums always have great drumming - take your pick (Mike Portnoy and Mike Mangini on their latest).

Ten Summoner's Tales - Sting (Vinnie Colaiuta).

In Absentia - Pocupine Tree (Gavin Harrison)

Anything by Rush - late 70's best IMO (Neil Peart)

ooops, it's songs, not albums you wanted wasn't it. Ah well, you'll find no end of great songs in this lot.

A few of my favourites...

Queens of the Stone Age - Song for the Dead (Dave Grohl)

Foo Fighters - Floaty (Dave Grohl again)

Pantera - Becomming, 5 Minutes Alone (Vinnie Paul)

Mastodon - Blood & Thunder, Sleeping Giant, Curl of the Burl (Brann Dailor)

How can anyone not have mentioned the almighty MESHUGGAH, the more I listen to Tomas Haake's work, especially on the last two albums Obzen and Koloss the further up my list of favourite drummers he creeps. Beautifully crafted, initially very challenging but suprisingly subtle and above all - incredibly powerful.

Tesseract - April & Concealing Fate part 2 Deception (Jamie Postones)

Tool - Danny Carey doesnt put a foot (or hand) wrong in this band

Van Halen - Hot For Teacher (Alex Van Halen) the intro needs to be played LOUD

Lamb of God - Laid to Rest, Now You've Got Something to Die For (Chris Adler)

Opeth - The Grand Conjuration (Martin Axenrot) The Drapery Falls (Martin Lopez)

:shame:

Actually, The Grand Conjuration from 'Ghost Reveries' was still Martin Lopez. Axe didn't come along until soon after the album was recorded and the first studio album he plays on is Watershed.

It is Axe drumming on 'The Roundhouse Tapes' live album though (I was there).:)

Hey shooter, certainly loads to like here....I'm going serially, the weekend is near and then I'll get to hear all of it. Great recommendations, will make a top chart of my recommendations once I get to hear all of them

Probably gone a bit off topic from the OP, but isn't the drumming on any track you love pretty much the best drumming ever at point of listening?

Sure, Bonham and Moon were great drummers, but really was Dave Lovering any less exciting when belting out the relatively simple beats to the great Pixies tracks? I know through experience that many apparently technically deficient drummers have belted out fantastic rhythms to some of my favourite music ever, while some technically excellent drummers leave me totally cold.
Interesting question there omnibeard. I suppose you are right, but some of my favourite songs for eg. James Morisson's Self Portrait has great drumming but its rather poorly recorded so I can't hear the drums to their full potential. I'm lucky to own a pair of speakers which have received praise for their drum reproduction and on good recordings they really shine with drums.
