now, sky seem to talk about the HD mix as if its a distinct mix, full of HD channels. It isnt tho, is it? When you sign up to Sky+HD, you only get the HD channels that would come in your package anyway, is that right? Or do you indeed get, in addition to any package you already have, all HD channels?

As i say, probably a silly question, but it has been getting to me, so i thought id double check.

Cheers. im only on the variety and music mix, so i think that only gives me the 3/4 free ones.

p.s. i assume you get it? have you noticed an improvement to SD pictures?

But the HD channels themselves are not exact replications of what exists. So it is a distinct set of channels, but like the last response says you wont get Sports and Movies if you dont have them as part of your basic package...they arent stupid since as you imply there is little point in most of the normal sky package that isnt present in the HD channels, but you have to sign up to that to get the HD...which is well worth it if you have a big enough TV (and arent sitting too far away).

al7478: p.s. i assume you get it? have you noticed an improvement to SD pictures? no i dont have sky hd tbh, but i am an independant aerial/satellite installer. i've never done a side by side comparison of sd content on both boxes so not sure if it would be/is. an improvement. blown away by hd content, but as for sd on hd sets i honestly never been impressed.

The basic list of HD channels is quite distinct from whatever other mixes you've chosen (apart from Movies and Sport). ÿFor example, I don't have the Style and Culture mix, but I can watch Sky Arts HD. ÿI enjoy the quality of that and there are often good things on Discovery, National Geographic and the History Channel, but I guess it's a matter of taste. ÿHD sport is important to me although I suppose if you're not into that or movies, Sky HD might seem a bit over the top.

SD channels through the HD box, via hdmi - massive improvement over normal Sky box with scart.
