Hello everyone,As some of you will know the BBC has plans to close 6Music as part of a rubbish way to try to please a potential tory government. I listen to this station everyday and to me it is pretty much the only radio station worth listening to (unless I'm after a bit of classical music). It has great presenters who know their stuff (now George Lamb has gone) and a fantastic range of new and old music from just about any genre, it manages to champion new bands without the juvenile attitude of stations like XFM (which used to be good about 10 years ago). There are great sessions recorded at the BBC over the last 40 years that you just won't hear anywhere else. They reckon Radio 1 & 2 can cover the content, what a load of balls, Radio 1 is unlistenable rubbish and Radio 2 is too "armchair & slippers" for me personally. This station is the only station that carries any of the spirit of the late, great John Pee

If you've never heard it have a listen, it's a digital station so you'll have to listen on DAB or your TV box or on-line http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music

Sign up to this petition if you fancy helping out, it's early days yet as all this only started yesterday but hopefully it will make a difference.http://www.petition.fm/petitions/6musicasiannet/1000/

There's a facebook group too http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=27...7586582..1

Complain directly to the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/complaints/forms/

If you want to read a bit about it look here http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblo...bbc-6musicor just look at any search engine.

Make your voice heard and pass it on to anyone you think might be interested.Cheerio!

Signed. There is less and less quality of both BBC TV and radio to be honest. The licence fee is not worth the money. Stop paying millions to idiots like Ross instead.

Refusing to support legitimate charities, pathetic implementation of FTA HD channels, talk of ending FM transmission, and now this. What exactly is the PUBLIC paying a Licence Fee for?

I am a BBC R2 ,R4, World Service and R7 listener but I will sign/join the above because I passionately believe that the BBC should be held to a remit of providing as much diversity as possible. (The license payers are diverse and so therefore should be the content.)

They also make a very healthy income from BBC Worldwide (and the sales of countless millions of DVDs, CDs, books etc.) so the license fee is not their only revenue stream, and they should be able to afford to the keep 'minority' or niche programming that makes them special. (Lots of 'minority' listeners with niche tastes buying the license every year - and buying the products - deserve to have their slice of the output.)

The sheer variety of television, radio, internet, printed and pre-recorded output makes the BBC totally unique in a media world hurtling towards bland homogeneity, but pressure from their 'clients' (us) must be kept up to help prevent them chipping away at the services on the assumption that no-one will notice or care.

Please be realistic. Without these cuts how else will the BBC be able to finance such hard hitting documentaries as Joe Swash hunting for ghosts and Danny Dyer hunting for UFO's?

Radio 6 is an excellent station that covers music not touched by Radio 1 et al. To get rid of it is madness. Why not market it a bit more and see the uptake?

Signed! I can not believe they are thinking of doing this, 6 music is the only radio show I can listen to during the day, it has such a varied mix of music and some really good presenters, would be such a shame if it was to go.

I really like 6 Music, more so now George Lamb is no more - I couldnt listen to him without wanting to pull my ears off.

In my opinion its more of a proper music station. Theyre not trying to please the masses, and have DJs on there who as you say, know what theyre talking about. To shut it down just seems ridiculous.

An interesting article regarding all the station closure fuss.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/feb/26/bbc-6-music-asian-network

Interesting to know 6 Music's figures are actually going up. As for Asian Network, I personally couldnt care less if it gets binned, and judging by its small listenership, neither could many other people!

I was listening to Lauren Laverne earlier, and she was talking about all the new listeners who've been emailing and calling in since last week. It certainly would be a shame to see it go.
