Hi Guys

I am considering buying this set after reading the review on this site and other well respected forums

My only concern before i go ahead is that some buyers are have experienced clouding and backlight bleed

Another major issue is that some sets are affected by vertical and horizontal banding

This was seen quite dramatically on the champions league final on saturday

So my question therefore is, has any other members on this forum experienced these problems and more importantly did the what hi fi team see any issues with the set when it was reviewed

Could Clare or Andy give soom feedback on this please

I'm thinking of holding back for a couple of months to see if Samsung can sort the issues out

Any advice would be most welcome

Many thanks

Definitely not seen on our review unit, or you'd have read about it - we've certainly previously noted clouding/bleed in reviews where we've found them.

As with all these issues that can affect sets, i'd recommend that you buy from a dealer that is happy for you to return the set should you encounter any such problems.

I know it's the next model up (albeit very nearly identical), but I spent some time using a Samsung UE46D8000 at home recently for various tests and had no such problems either.

I have had mine about 4 weeks now and apart from a little bleed along the bottom it is perfect and the best picture I have had on a set bearing in mind this replaced a pioneer plasma 436 series when I say little i mean you really have to look hard and really only appears when watching films in letter box so no problems really get one at home and see for yourself I dont regret mine

Thanks Andy & Clare for your swift replies

Perhaps the issues were with the earlier sets

When did you get your respective sets?

I have e-mailed Samsung as to some assurances on present quality and whether they have had issues

I very much doubt they will admit to any faulty sets, but worth a try

I'm still in two minds as to which way to go on this

Do any other members have the D7000 & D8000?

Some feedback would be great

Hi,

funny you should mention this, i actually bought a 46d7000 last week and took it back today and got a refund.

It had terrible backlight bleed all along the bottom of the panel, and patches of clouding all over the screen which made it impossible to focus on watching films in the dark as it really showed the tv's flaws during dark scenes.

Having said that watching planet earth on blu ray looked incredible and the motion handling was pretty damn good.

After reading elsewhere other peoples experiences, alot of people were also complaining about the same issues i was having so i opted not to exchange for another. Alot of people seem to accept these minor floors but if I'm paying £1500 for a tv i expect it to be more or less perfect and shouldnt have to put up with issues such as clouding. I have now reverted back to my Sony 32V2500 for the time being and boy does it look tiny, but at least i dont have any clouding/backlight bleed issues.

I will be waiting for the Sony KDL46HX923 depending on the reviews from what hifi.

It is very annoying that it seems sony's trade in scheme won't apply to the new range of 3d tv's as it end's at the beginning of June and the majority of the new HX series aren't going to be available until the end of June/July.

What Hi-Fi- Any idea when we could expect a review of the Sony KDL46HX923???

many thanks.

I'm yet to see an LED edge lit TV with uniform backlighting.

I know this is a controversial statement, and of course some sets are more obviously afflicted by this problem than others, but the question is really whether an edge lit TV can reduce this issue to a tolerable level, rather than eliminate the problem entirely.

It's a shame, really, as full array local dimming is a better alternative; but manufacturers (and many consumers) have sacrificed performance for the slimmest of profiles.

That said, local dimming TVs can introduce haloing. No set is perfect, but I find the occasional glow around images of a streetlight or torch less distracting than clouding.

Hi Jeffro,

Thought since Im the new guy I should give an opinion on the set in question. I just purchased 2 of the sets this week and whilst I cant really see any of this 'banding' issue people are talking about I can see that on the right hand hand side of my screen there seems to be a backlight bleed issue and is particularily obvious. It appears as though the screen is much brighter on the right hand side of the screen and now that Ive noticed it it is something that is always seen now.

Its a real shame, I picked these sets over the Panasonics VT series due to the fact they where LED low power and absolutely stunning to lok at at. The picture quality is nice although in the beginning I noticed bad motion judder even on the the likes of coronation street!

I havent opened the other 46" yet as I may have to return both sets due to the inconsistencies with the panels. Previously I had a Panasonic 42 PZ81 and the picture on that now 3-4 year old set is more watchable that the Sammy. Shame.

If I return the panels Ill be looking at the GT pannys as the VT series doesnt come in a 46" size :(

I have the 55D8000, it does have a little clouding and has 3 vertical bands in the center of the screen, how much you notice these depends on your viewing habits, in daytime clouding and banding is very very hard to notice, so if you went to demo one if a shop you probably wouldnt see anything wrong.

However if you like to watch in pitch dark rooms you will see the a little clouding, you will also see the vertical bands in dim/dark rooms, the bands will not show on 90% of that you watch, football, golf, cricket will show it, aliens, monsters vs aliens and book of eli are just three movies I noticed it.

The TV does produce a fantasic picture most of the time but for me the vertical bands are annoying so I have returned my set, other people may not be bothered by it

Hello again,

Just to update, I took a trip out to look at the Panny GT30b and have came back, packed up my Samsungs and arraged to have them returned ASAP. The order is in for two 46" GT30b's and all I can say is the picture quality is soo much better and a better quality panel overall than the Sammys.

Samsung you tried your best but too many issues with your screens for 3000+ worth of televsions for it not to be as brilliant as the Panasonics which cost less. Good luck to those who arent affected for all the documented D7000 problems. Like a beautiful woman you where stunning to look at by by jove you where useless in between the sheets so Ive seen and heard enough so in the immortal words of Lord Sugar- YOU'RE FIRED!

hi guys

I decided in the end to give this set a go

I can see minor clouding in the bottom right hand corner with slight vertical banding especially when viewing football and cricket

I will be returning the set to crampton and moore for a replacement

Perhaps i have been unlucky with my set as the what hi fi team had no issues with their review

All a bit strange , perhaps Samsung give their test set a good going over before it's passed to the what hi fi team

I don't think i'm the only one experiencing problems with this set

Hopefully my new set, from a different batch will be of a better quality

regards
