Hi,

Just bought the Series 7 40" Samsung LED 7020, after constant nagging from the wife (I wanted to keep my gorgeous, if not ridiculously big 36" CRT). You would think it would be the other way round...!

Anyway, as I knew would happen the picture on SD is just not that great. I have HDMI cable into TV from V+. I have set the V+ output from HiDef 720 wide, to 1080 wide, to Composite output. The HiDef's seem give a worse picture than the Composite. Does V+ do any scaling to get the picture to 720 or 1080 HiDef, and does leaving the output at composite, "switch off" scaling on the V+? What I mean is, if "scaling" is switched off, does the TV then do the job of upscaling?

Also is it possible top turn scaling off on the TV, and just use the scaling on the V+???

I'm so confused?!?!

I have acquired Nemo and will set up according to THX, but is this just suited for movies, are there recommended calibration settings for SD?

I have also seen somewhere on the web high level info stating that it's possible to save different picture settings for different HDMI inputs. I cannot see this on the TV - any ideas if this is possible?

In a nutshell, can anyone suggest (without going back to my beloved CRT) a way of getting the picture of SD fairly watchable?

Thx Oxbose

There is no way using composite should you get a worse picture when using hdmi. I would calibrate first with THX and then see what picture you get.

Ok, tried to calibrate using the glasses. But could not get it to work... for example.. Setting the contrast

I could distinguish between the 8 white boxes all the way up to maximum contrast... maybe im doing it wrong but it certainly didnt seem to help.

Also when I set the source on this tv (i.e. blu ray) this is displayed when I switch

1920 x 1080 @ 24 hz.

Thought this tv was suppose to be 100hz..

Still confused... cheers

1920x108024hz the 24 part is the film speed that blu rays are played on a compatible tv your tv is still 100hz which is a program the tv uses to lessen the effects of motion blur on fast moving action.
