Hi,

Half term break with parents / kids etc....

My Dad - bless him has set the above tv to his best - he has done ok.(Not bad for a 65yr old).

Have put a few basics right - got rid of scart from Sky HD box (no HD subscription) - linked up HDMI 1 etc - great improvement.

Picture settings are awful (shop mode) - anyone know best settings (his contrast is at 100%!!! = yuk) ?

Particulary interested in what picture modes to turn on and off etc ....

Dont have any calibration tools up here - its not even linked to a dvd player - appreciate all tvs are different but some basic advice would be much appreciated.

My parents also say that every now and then (randomly) the tv asks if they want to switch it off ? I have gone into settings and its nothing obvious - like sleep timers etc ... and its not Sky box going into 1am auto standby ? Any ideas please ?

Any advice would be appreciated - I dont trust my own eyes.

Oh, and a Sky remote code for tv plus a reminder on how to set via Sky remote please.

Dont want much do i ?

Obviously, you will need to tweak it further depending on the lighting etc.

For remote codes, check this:

As instructed, if above fails, try this:

Thanks for this.

Will try the picture settings shortly.

The links for codes are both the same though and not the correct code for this model.

I did find the code elsewhere, so thanks anyway.

If anyone wants it - its 646.

Cheers.

Hi,

Now thinking of buying a wireless usb dongle for my parents as a pressie for the above tv.

Can anyone tell me if I have to buy a dedicated Samsung one (and if so what one please) or can a cheaper alternative be found ?

Plus - if anyone knows - cheapest place to buy.

Finally, once set up I am presuming that they will be able to get BBC iplayer etc .... would this be correct ?
