Just received the new 37 inch Samsung http://whathifi.com/Review/Samsung-LE37B550/ (chosen on WHF review). as I was tuning it I noticed that part of the screen (abt 15 cm left side and to a lesser size and degree the right side) is brighter than the rest of the screen. it looks like "hot spot" area. first I was not sure - I thought this may be due to wrong angle of view but it looks the same from anywhere. then I thought it may be an over-set backlighting or brightness or another setting, but tuning these did not help. it is subtle and is difficult to see on busy pictures but is quie apparent on dark scenes and during various menues being displayed.

I have now ordered a replacement, but wonder if this uneven brightness can be inherent with this type of TV or is it clearly a defect?

thats clouding , sometimes lcd tvs suffer from it , i had both a philips and samsung lcd last year , and they were both perfect , you are right not to accept it though , hopefully the next one will be ok ...
