After owning my Samsung UE32B7020 for just over a year (how long was that warranty - doh!) I decided I would try and figure out why the Internet TV functionality wasn't working. It is plugged into my home network via and ethernet cable from my router.

Samsung claim to be able to use DHCP automatically assigned IP addresses. However, after much trawling of the internet and no little head scratching I can't for the life of me get the darned thing to work. I even ventured into my router set up to try assigning a static IP address to no avail.

Does anyone know of anybody who has successfully go this to work?!

I thought perhaps the set needed a firmware update and attempted to do this using a USB stick. Sadly that also failed miserably.

Answers on a postcard please!

Thanks!

Nick - I recently bought a Samsung TV and the internet TV worked straight out of the box. We have Love Film, YouTube and BBC iPlayer all working really well. There are a number of reasons that it my not be working but I start by checking the network settings on the TV and then checking to see if the TV is showing up on the network. If you have any PCs running Windows 7 then go into the network and sharing center (click on the network icon in the system tray in the bottom right hand corner and then click on network and sharing center). You can then show the full network map and if the TV is connected it should show up. If you can get it connected upgrading the firmware is normally a sensible move. Beyond that all I can suggest is use Google with the specifics of any problems and you should be able to hunt down a solution to your problem on the various forums. One thing I would say about internet TV and DNLA if you get onto that is that it can be a bit uhhhh temperamental. To my mind this is quite techie stuff trying to go mainstream consumer and you need to think of you TV more as a PC with a large screen so you may find that turning it on and off at the mains may solve some issues - certainly the case with me! Good luck.

Jeff - thanks for the tips. I'm a Mac user so I'm used to things working out of the box too! I'd like to be able to use iPlayer and Love Film which is why I finally got around to tackling the Samsung (we also have a Panasonic which works just fine - out of the box!).

I can't see the Samsung on the network (I'm looking at the connected devices on my router - I have Windows running on a Mac via Bootcamp for 'emergencies' such as these, but I'm not sure where I would see the network connections and in any event think the information I'm getting from my router should be complete).

I've tried switching the TV on and off several times to no avail.

I've just checked the paperwork that came with the Samsung and see I registered it at the beginning of January - so hopefully that's when the 12 month clock will have started ticking. A call to their help desk today is in order I think.

I have checked hundreds of forums and there seem to be an awful lot of people out there with the same problem. My guess is that some of the Samsungs must ship with dodgy hardware.
