I've had my tv for about 3 months and on the weekend while watching a blu ray i noticed greyish patches in all four corners of the screen when the movie went into dark scenes. I adjusted the backlight level and turned it down to 3 and it reduced the greyness a little but they are still visible and now i can't help but focus on them when i'm watching something. Is this a backlight bleeding issue? can it be fixed or should i be looking at getting it replaced? its a great tv i love the picture it gives but after forking out my hard earned i expected better i'm yet to contact the store where i bought it. anyone else had this problem? is this a common fault with lcd's? any advice would be great thanks

Don't enjoy bringing bad news , but since no one else seems inclined .....

sounds like the dreaded clouding or 'mura ' as the Japanese like to call it . When it occupies any or all of the corners it gets labelled 'flashlighting' . Backlight bleed is something else , I think , but is often confused with the other . Sony lcd's have been suffering from this plague for some time now , but have really become problematic with the W4000/4500 series . Or not , as many satisfied owners have not had cloudy sets . You don't have to look very far to read up on this sad affair ; try the lengthy thread originated by Alper.

The relevance for you is that Sony and Samsung use the same S-PVA screen , I think , therefore it is not surprising to find the same problems . Other than reducing the backlighting to zero there is nothing else you can do except try to obtain a replacement . Outside of the initial 28 day period Sony owners have not had success in this , but you may fancy a try .

My heartfelt sympathy to you .

Thanks for the reply nws56 sounds like i might be screwed and yeah i have read alper's thread and damn i feel sorry for him his is much worse than mine and he's had nothing but the run around from sony and the place of purchase which is pretty rude considering how bad his set was!

I'm going to contact the store where i bought and see what they have to say about it i'm hoping it'll be a straight up replacement with no hassles but my only concern is could this happen again with a replacement set its possible this is a common fault with this model so i might even give samsung a call and see if they can shed some light on this problem not that i expect them to just say " yeah we are aware of this issue and we'll happily replace it for you" hmmm wishful thinking.
