I'll tell you what, because I'm fair, I'll answer you question then lets see if you have the grace to answer mine shall we.
The pc was passive cooled atom, running ssd, SL linear external psu connected to a cambridge audio dacmagic 100 over usb. OS was daphile. Then tried it with a bog standard pc I had lying around with windows 7 and foobar set to wasapi output. Any difference heard was minimal in the fact of echoic memory - ie when it was done bline neither of us can say which was which.

fair play you did your testing and solved your answer - I wouldnt call that an optimised PC in anyway as all the same flaws would be evident on both PC's minus the power supply to be honest but there is no point going over that or going over anything related to this - its already boring to read and petty tit for tat.
I actually did a blind test of my own - I wont go into it - I sent 2 exact song files to my cousin and asked could he hear a difference between A and B and what was the difference. He said exactly what I thought was the difference - I was not even in the same side of the borough to him and did not say a word
That proved to me that there was something in what I was doing there so I am checking sanity along the way.
Either way I posted a link to a review, now have had to defend that review - pathetic.

The fact the company like CAD is in bed with Harbeth for Bristol this year is interesting and I hope I get to go and hear that system - just hope the room is up to it in terms of acoustics to give it a fair demo
