Two options I would recommend at your price point.

The first one is the Epson EH-TW8100, superb picture and all-round performance for the money, 3D & very bright for normal viewing. Second one would be Sony's VPL-HW30es, last year’s model and won’t be around for much longer but you can pick one in your price range brand new with the 3 year Sony warranty.

For me the Sony edges it on performance but for 3D has an external emitter which can be tricky to place within the room.

I'd rather suggest you to consider SANYO projectors too. They've also got unbiased reviews and much inexpensive than others. Many projector hire dealers used to keep SANYO stuff as a reliable product for rental services due to thier longevity. Have a look at this: http://www.avdj.co.nz/projectors-screens/data-video-projectors, the service provider has kept SANYO projectors for all kind of hire services and this makes a lot of sense.
