Recommend me a NAS

...ideally with a HDD already built-in. I intend to mainly use it for music storage. I don't think I need more than 2TB at most, and that's allowing for future purchases.

My home network consists of two Mac Minis, an iMac I7 and a Windows 7 laptop linked to a Netgear DGN2200 router via 500bmit homeplugs. Ideally I want the NAS to link via a spare port on one of the homeplugs, rather than direct to the router, because the router is not in an ideal place.

At the moment all my music is stored on the HDD of one of the Mac Minis, but I want to move it to an external NAS.

I just want something simple that my Macs will see, that I can mount with a script so each computer's iTunes can use it, same as they do now with the Music folder on my Mac Mini which is shared.

I'd suggest looking at one of these Netgear ReadyNAS Duo V2.They support Apple File Protocol (AFP) and Itunes Server.

Its a 2-bay NAS for £98 (no drives included). So you could start by just adding a 2TB drive (£60) and then double up if you want to later.

You can also turn it into a PVR (FreeviewHD,FreesatHD or cable) using a USB dongle and record TV and share it to any other device on the network.

I would also recommend attaching the NAS directly to your router, and using the homeplugs only for end-clients. That way you dont reduce the available bandwidth when the NAS is serving multiple clients.

I'm loving my Synology DiskStation DS212J. OK, you have to put the disk in yourself, but hey, are you old enough to remember putting film in a camera? ... that was harder.
