Real problem with HDMI cable

I have a serious problem, I need to install in a pipe between the power amplifier and the projector an 15m HDMI cable (I was thinking on the TechLink 680200 series). The only way I can do that is cutting the cable in one of the edges and weld it after passing through the pipe.
Can I do this?
Will the cable loose is properties if I do that?
Is there another option?

I´ll be very thankful for any help.

Hmmmm, never done this and never will but I'd suspect you'd be in for a hell of a re-joining session. Doesn't sound like a good plan to me mate. I take it the pipe has been buried in the wall/ceiling?

is there definately no way to get the cable to it. Above the ceiling floorboards or under floor?

i agree, think your have a nightmare of a job an probably have problems. another option would be to get a hdmi over cat5/6 sender and receiver, such as this .your be able to easily run to cat5 cables in the conduit and save your self potentially ruining a hdmi cable

Absolutely no way! Have a look here at the number of different wires going on inside your average HDMI cable:

Now if you can confidently hook all of those back up without any signal quality loss, you're a better man than most!

I have a similar problem with an IXOS XHT 458 Overture 3m HDMI.

I have sunk all of my HDMI cables and had them plastered into my wall, behind my TV. The TV has managed to squash the end of my IXOS HDMI cable and now the plug is seperated from the cable and damaged. Is it repairable, or have I lost £80 worth of cable and a replaster job? Not looking good from the detail above.

Can be done, if you google folks have been able to put the two ends back using a PCB board, or get a CAT5E/6 Extender something like this http://ukhdmi.com/Octava_HDMI_over_Ethernet_CAT5_6_QQ101246

The more that I look at the bare cable end sticking out below my TV, the more depressed I feel!

£80 down the drain and no get out of jail card I can play.

Must admit, now I'm looking at the Ixos XHT458 cable, it does look decidedly flimsy and it's my opinion that this made a large contribution to the cable's failure.

Anybody from Ixos looking in, willing to give me a freebie HDMI cable to ease my pain!

I've still got a fully intact Cambridge reference HDMI cable connected to my TV / Bluray player and this is working fine.

I don't want to chase another cable into the wall.

Does anybody suggest a cheap switching unit that can connect to my good HDMI cable and switch between my Bluray player and an Xbox 360

Any suggestions on a 3m cable for under the £50 mark tops to connect to my Xbox 360? - something that's durable

Also, bearing in mind my predicament above, anybody feeling sorry for me reading in at Richer Sounds (where I purchased the leads) want to offer me some discount on a replacement (in addition to the lollipops)

Also another alternative is to bin off the Yamaha DSPAX759SE amp and go full HD audio with HDMI switching. Any suggestions on a model that is up there with my current Yam, that can forefill my needs -this is the last resort

The way I see it is you have four options (in order of ascending expense):
1. Just get another cable and have it trail without being plastered into the wall. 3m for £50? How about this fella?
2. Get an HDMI switch box like this WHF 5 star rated QED one (though quite pricey) or a no-brand one like the ones here.
3. Get a new amp to act as an HDMI switcher like you say. I'm not familiar with your Yamaha, but looking at the model number, my guess would be either the Yamaha AX763 (though only 2 HDMI ins), or the Yamaha AX863 - both highly rated by WHF as you can see.
4. Get the builders in to rip out the cable and put a new one in...
Personally, if money were no object, I'd probably go for option 3 as it means new toys!

Thanks for the options professorhat. I have had a good positive and relatively inexpensive solution to my problem.

My first port of call was Richer Sounds Liverpool (where I purchased the lead) and they were very positive and said that if I returned the lead they would exchange/refund (even though it may be covered with plaster, etc). I said that I didn't want to disturb the chase I had cut as it may damage the other HDMI and the Optical lead I had plastered in. They said that they would give me a substantial discount on whatever I chose to buy as a replacement.

I then wrote an email directly to Ixos, and got a very positive response from Debbie Simms. Debbie said that Ixos have never had any problems with the lead before and as it comes with a 10 year guarantee, they will post me out a replacement this week!

Well done Ixos. Great response and great service. I'm all excited about getting my AV system up and running again. I can then work on the wife (as well as releasing those hidden funds!) for a new CD player

A happy ending!
