QED XT cables...

Hello folks,

I was going to buy some QED XT350 speaker cable for a quick experiment, as it's a decent price on a well known auction site.

However, I'm wondering if it's suitable for conecting with just bare wire, rather than with plugs at the end? I see it seems to have a plastic core in the centre, so I'm wondering if this makes it too thick to feed through binding posts, or maybe just awkward to connect without Airloc plugs?

My amp has BFA connectors, and I'd rather not have to go to the bother of faffing about just for something that is just a cheap-ish experiment.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

A friend of mine has connected the QED silver anniversary in the way you say. I guess it depends on the size of the holes in the binding posts

Weither it affects sound quality I do not know as we have not performed ant A/B tests with bare wire vs airlocks. He likes it so thats all that matters though I doubt sound is affected. Airlocks are mainly a convenience thing.

Hope this helps.ÿ

unless you like harsh bright-sounding cables, I wouldn't stick QED cables into any good hifi!

Maybe you could try making some positive suggestions, instead of just slagging off everyone's choices, which is all you've done since you turned up here?

Or is being constructive too boring for you?

It does indeed, ta muchly! I think the XT350 might be a wee bit thicker than the SA though, but I'll have a bash! Nothing ventured and all that

I usually use bare wire to connect my speakers up anyway, as I figure the fewer things in the signal path the better. I only really considered fitting plugs to make sure I could make a connection. Bloomin' BFA plugs, grrrr!
