I am having problems connecting my laptop to my LCD TV.

My laptop is an alienware m9750. It has a DVI-D socket so I have bought a DVI - HDMI cable.

When the computer boots up you can see the scripts on the tv screen and the TV recognises the input as 720p.

However, when you get to the password screen the there is no image on the tv screen and it remains black as the computer finishes booting up.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Yes, the laptop continues normally.

I can only think that the laptop settings aren't matching the tv settings but through hdmi on tv there is no option to adjust resolution.

thanks for reply.

Are you trying to run the laptop screen at the same time as the TV.

If so they can possibly running at different resolutions, what resolution are you trying to pass from the laptop to the TV.

Tha black screen after the initial boot screen would indicate that the resolution from Windows isn't recognised by the TV, that is where you need to have a look.

Also once you have logged into windows what happens?

Ajeffo,

I've sorted it. I went into the display settings in the control panel and added the tv as monitor number 2 and was able to switch between the two. It was really fiddly to get the resolution right between the computer and tv but got there in the end.

thanks for your help.
