Hi as you may know i have just switched from a denon dm37 to an onkyo 725 and ever since getting it i have had problems with the DAB signal on particular stations, being absolute radio, planet rock and NME uk.

Its fine when im not near the system, and sitting down but as soon as i get up and start walking about it starts to break up and then come back and then break again.

The annoying thing is the sigal was absolutley fine on the denon, why could this be? It mentions in the manual to pin the antenna to a wall, however i just put it on top of my wardrobe as i did with the denon.

Any suggestions?

Obviously the Denon has a better tuner so you'll need to experiment with the antenna placement. If all else fails you'll need an external aerial.

Well, not so sure 'better tuner'; more likely higher sensitivity. I'd extend the aerial out as Onkyo suggests, but yes the eventual answer may be an external antenna.

Common problem on DAB, the signal isn't always as robust as you might think. Frequently had signal dropout on my Denon micro in the kitchen. As Andrew says, you may need an external aerial.

Any chance they will improve it in the future if i dont get a new aerial?

Actually I have a question as well. I heard a while back that when they close down the analogue signal they'll boost the DAB signal. Is this true?

My first move to DAB is via a Pure Classic and, bluntly, the DAB doesn't work. zero station pickup. The DAB bit was a bonus as it was primariuly bought for FM stations. However now they are going to turn FM off i'm more concerned!...

Did you actually check whether DAB is broadcast in your area? It doesn't yet have nationwide coverage, I can't get it where I live but it is available in the main town in the area (about 15 miles away).

It'll operate in the same way the Digital TV switchover did/does, if you get no DAB stations at all now you'll probably find they magically appear at the same time your FM reception disappears.
