Remember the old saying: A friend in need, is a pain in the arse.
More like: A friend in need is a pita, get rid of them 🙂

Unfortunately, I've had to do that with a lot of so-called friends over the years. Generally ones who always want to borrow my tools or who want you to help them out with their DIY projects, only to become an unpaid handyman.

Got one trying it on a the moment. My tools, my time. It's not as though he's skint, far from it. I'll be keeping him at arms length and make sure I'm always too busy.

A problem compounded by the fact that the generations that have practical skills are dying out. I'll never have a fraction of the talent my dad had in that respect.

I learnt very little from my father, he would use a hammer on a screw, god rest his soul 🙂 I've basically taught myself through trial and error. I can turn my hand to most DIY tasks and have bought tools as I needed them.

I don't do holidays as such, so I spend my money where I think it's required, and that's generally on tools to make life easier. Some people would rather have three holidays a year and then borrow what they need. If you don't give DIY a go, or don't have the tools for the job, then get a tradesmen in.

The only people I work for free is now limited to my immediate family.
