Hello there. First post from me. I'm just after a ballpark figure as to how much I should expect to pay for a recap and general service for a Primare Integrated A30.1 from an independent. It has a bit of mains hum in one of the channels so that suggests a failing cap at least. I was also wondering if I should replace like for like or go for a particular manufacturer.

My first call would be to Karma AV, who import Primare, assuming you’re in the UK.

They may no longer support it as it must be 15 plus years old. But they probably are well placed to refer you to someone.

Otherwise, you can raise a ticket at Primare’s website. The ever helpful Terry Medalen and his team may have some guidance too.

The only independent that comes to mind who seems to take on most products is Wilkinsons in Lancashire.

There may be others obviously!

Great team at Wilkinson's. I live local to them and have been in there when customers from Scotland have travelled down to get something repaired.

Actually Wilkinson's is about a 20 minute drive for me so I've rung them up. Still waiting for them to get back to me.

As far as replacing and soldering caps is concerned I'm OK with doing that but sourcing all the right caps could be a bit of a pain maybe. Also there may be other issues with it and I don't have the expertise to know what I'm doing. It's a bit more than a humming channel as it won't turn on at all unless it's been put in standby for half an hour or so. If it's not warmed up a bit it just shuts down again when I try to fire up the output relays. It may be that a recap of the whole unit sorts it out but it may not.

Wilkinsons is about 20 mins drive for me too, well it is if Colne isn't bottle knecked. Why does it take longer to get through Colne than actually getting to Colne 😡😡😡
