I have a Nexus and want to get a sub £500 HiFi/player to play spotify, music files and CDs. Maybe also play my TV through the same system. I am using Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 speakers. Cany anyone help? Not knowledgable on HiFi or latest tech so go easy please!

No worries, I think it's the forum itself as opposed to your computing skills. Lots of the forum users seem to be having the same problem.
What do you use to power the Wharfedale speakers at the moment?
Also do you want to connect the Nexus to the device directly to play music or are you looking to stream the music via wi-fi?

I was given the Wharfedale speakers and not using currently. I assumed they would be powered by the unit I purchased. I dropped into Superfi yesterday and looked at the denon DM39, but I understand it is only compatible with the 'fruit based' technology
I am happy to either connect the Nexux direct or by other means - just whatever can help me realise the potential of spotify etc...

You could connect the Nexus directly to the DM39 via a headphone to phono cable.
You could even stream from the Nexus 7 via bluetooth to a logitech wireless speaker adaptor (link below, £35) which would connect directly to the back of the Denon.

You could also use something like Sonos to allow you to stream wirelessly but you need an additional app to stream direct from the nexus 7.The Sonos product will also allow you to use the nexus 7 to play music from your laptop through the same unit.To meet all of your requirements you would need to buy an additional CD player.
With the Sonos system you would have the additional flexibility to add an additional unit at a later date to allow you to listen to music in another room.
Both of these options should cost less than your £500 budget.
As there are so many different options I would suggest another trip to a specialist dealer to find something that meets all of your needs.

Thanks for that it was helpful because i liked the DM39 (due to price and ratings etc). Will the options you suggest give a good level of sound quality? Apologise if novice questions but I am.. well.. a novice!

I am sure both of the options I suggested will give you a half decent sound but the best way to find out is to get your local hifi shop to demo them for you. Then there won't be any nasty surprises when you get the kit home. If I were in your position I would be tempted to go with the Sonos As it allows a degree of expandibility as well as the ability to stream music from your laptop too. But that's me... Only you can decide what's right for your needs.

I was thinking of the connect amp (link below, £399). You could buy a CD player for around £100 and connect it into the back of it. It will also stream internet radio if that's something you would like to get into.

The DM39 + WDTV Live?
The WDTV Live has Spotify included, so you wouldn't need to use the N7 as a source.
With bubbleupnp (or similar) installed on the Nexus you could also stream any media stored on it to the WDTV + control it with the WDTV remote app.

Don't think TB does audio.
Try imediashare lite. Though bare in mind most of the Airplay apps don't support AEX if that's what you're using.
They work fine with ATV and other Airplay speakers
