Hey there,

I've recently upgraded my speakers to the Dali Ikon 6 5.1 set up (as reviewed here: http://www.whathifi.com/review/dali-ikon-6-51-package ) and now comes time to upgrade the Denon AVR-1611 amp. I've been able to narrow my choice down to the Pioneer VSX-LX55 http://www.whathifi.com/review/pioneer-bdp-lx55 and the Onkyo TX-NR809 http://www.uk.onkyo.com/en/products/tx-nr809-43200.html

I'm wanting something in the vicinity of 150w per channel at 6ohms, which both amps fit the bill for. Likewise, both amps will give me the ability to bi-amp the fronts.

The Pioneer has a couple of nice features which the Onkyo doesn't, such as HDMI pass through and Apple AirPlay, but I guess the crux of my question is whether the LX55 will offer too much brightness/sparkle in the top end when paired with the Dali Ikons. In reading a number of reviews, the Onkyo doesn't seem to as particular when being paired with different speaker sets as the Pioneer does.

Any feedback/insight here would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The Pioneer will work a treat with the Dali - it is a great combination. It wont be bright but if your room introduces a harsher top end then the X-Curve within the advanced menu on the Pioneer will allow you to tame it. With the 2021 down at under £600 I would opt for that over the LX55 as the performance is identical.

Interesting Nick and thanks for the advice, I'll have a bit of a read on the 2021.
