Pioneer SC-LX71 vs LX81 amps

I was interested to see the slightly less favourable review of he LX71 online. Looking at the specs they seem to be pretty similar and elsewhere you hear of folks saying they can hear little difference.

What size room did you use? One of the key differences seems to be the THX Ultra2 vs Select2 specification and I understand that they key difference here is that one is designed for larger rooms. I was interested in the LX81 from your original review but my room isn't that big and probably fits in with the LX71 THX specs (ie I get the impression that the LX71 is suited to smaller rooms). Does this make sense?

The 81 is essentially a polished 71 - the quality of sound produced is over and above what the specification states. On paper there is not much between them especially if you dont need the second HDMI output but side by side the differences are marked.

If you are going to use the system for music or with mid range speakers and above the 81 will show its advatage over the 71.

Try to get a demonstration and you will hear it first hand.
