Now I have a new stereo system, I wish to expand my Pink Floyd collection.

Have got these, which others should I buy (or not buy) CD versions ?

DSOTM - soon to buy the 30th Anniversary (as an upgrade)

Meddle

Animals

The Wall

Echo's

Wish you were here

Opinions appreciated !

Thx

Meddle is one to get. If you're lucky you can snag the EMI Japanese black label - I picked mine up earlier this summer and it sounds sublime. Easy one of my faves - almost vinyl-like.

Your Pink Floyd collection is almost identical to mine... Except that I also have Saucerful of Secrets and Ummagumma.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Saucerful - some zany moments, some great spaced out atmospheres and definite signs of what they would reach on Meddle.

Ummagumma's a game of two halves really. The live album is great, if somewhat short. The studio album's too scatty and doesn't really gel for me.

He has Meddle already ya muppet! 😉

Their first album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, is an essential album purchase, not just a PF one. Far better than A Saucerful of Secrets which was without Barrett. In the middle period there is Obscured By Clouds, a film soundtrack that stands up on its own as a fine album and then fast forward to their final album with Waters, The Final Cut, very underated IMO. Apart from those you have their best efforts already.

I'm with you on this one, Tonestar1.

'Take it back' was the first song I saw/heard in concert on tv......hooked ever since.

'Divison Bell' was the first album I bought.

Piper at the Gates of Dawn

The Division Bell

Ummagumma's worth it for the live part, though you might also want to look at the Live at Pompeii DVD

I also agree that The Final Cut is underrated and well worth a look

Definetely The Final Cut, and if you like it make sure to check Roger Water`s Pros & Cons and Amused To Death. Both amazing albums.

Cheers

Hasn't anybody suggested Dark Side of The Moon?? One of the most brilliant albums ever...

"Is There Anybody Out There" which is a superb album, or maybe Roger Waters "Amused To Death" this is one of my all time faves.

As I have mentioned elswhere, Pink Floyd ceased to exist after "The Wall": they have only been a brand name ever since. HIGHLY recommended, "Radio Kaos" by Roger Waters.

All Waters' solo outputs have their merits, even Ca Ira. But 'Amused to Death' in particular with it's amazing Q Sound effects.

Time for another studio solo Roger, that was the last one - in 1992 I believe!

Also try Gilmour 'Live in Gdansk' - superb production.

In fact, buy everything Floyd and all the solo material!

Im with gpi and lazar on this .The final cut is a cracking recording, really underated. Pulse imo is overproduced tosh . Delicate sound is a far superior frisbee.

I must admit to being a fan, in fact one of the first LaserDiscs I got my hands on was "Live in Pompeii" many moons ago.
My first experience of quadraphonic sound was DSOT

on an 8-track quad cartridge.
Thanks to the bands/engineers obsession with audio quality, you can get most of the albums in glorious DTS surround.
I have the following PF discs in this format and I still play them on a regular basis :

Atom Heart Mother
The Dark Side Of The Moon
Wish you were here
Animals
The Wall
The Final Cut
The Division Bell

I am hard pressed to pick an absolute favourite. although ask most people and you'll probably get DSOT

as an answer.
Everyone seems to remember what they were doing and where they were when they first heard it . . . .

As someone has previously said, Piper is a fantastic album full stop, not just a fantastic Floyd album.

Interstellar Overdrive shows Floyd at their experimental improvisational best. Syd's lyrics are also wonderful, but that side of the album is more of a personal taste thing!

I wouldn't be without it. Strangely, I prefer the mono version...

Essential:

Pied Piper At The Gates Of Dawn

Meddle

Dark Side Of The Moon

Wish You Were Here

Animals

The Wall

Definitely Worthwhile:

A Saucerful Of Secrets

The Final Cut

A Momentary Lapse Of Reason

For Curiosity:

The Division Bell

All other early albums.

Great Solo Albums:

The Pros And Cons Of Hitch-Hiking - Roger Waters

On An Island - David Gilmour

No, just a bit behind the times and buying the 30th Disc which came out in 2003 !!!

Looks like I have a nice list of new CD's to buy thanks to everyone replying ! Just spent my lunch time browsing Japan editions. That could be an expensive hobby to buy the discs from there !
